When you attack someone who is currently dead you get a message like "X is already shut down." My suggestion would be quite simple, an additional message of " by Y".
To put real names in the final result would be like "*WU*twigs is already shut down by [OSX]-Prince-"

Agreed it should be easy since some of the code is already used on our profile views.

Well when you have 30 tabs open and your curious on who you are racing against, its annoying to open up the tabs of 20 profiles to see that. Do you have a problem with progress for the game Hat? Like people have said it would be easy to code, just take away the period, add the word by and then the code to show the name of their last death.

Chances are it would be the same person should all your targets be down, and with a max of 10 people online it shouldn't take detective work to figure it out. Usually, Twid Void Snags or myself will be your culprit. I just don't see the point in coding things with very little use for lazy people.

And the problem I have with progress is that there is none in terms of new players. A tiny update like that wouldn't even be considered progress in my mind.

Considering that such a feature would require a single line of code (hell, less than that), I feel your reasoning against it to be a little... lacking. QOL updates are just as important as full-featured updates.
