Jail Sentence Length

Postby Blanz on Mon, 11 Jan 2010 03:29:26 +0000

Honestly, I don't see why jail sentences are so long. instead of 15 for lyn, 45 for cia, and 2 hrs for the white house, why couldn't it just be 5, 10, 15? It gets the point across. The only thing jail sentences do is piss people off imo, and probably turn back some nublets who get caught on lyn and say "**** th1$ im nawt wayting!"
also: for getting busted on someone, that can be 10 minutes too, whatever works

I second this.

Even if you halve all the sentances. They're too long.

imo all i see is a whine in this thread. Why not look at the jail times as something to maybe go pee, or go eat or something. No need to sit through it. Chat is also in place to help time go by. Why fix something that's not broken.

a lightbulb that uses 1,000 watts of energy, but produces the same amount of light as a 60watt bulb isnt broken either, but its pretty stupid. excessive jail times is a 1,000 watt lightbulb

Excessive? What are you using as a comparison? maybe you don't understand the gambling aspect of all this. A random number generator can produce the same number three times in a row and still be generating it randomly. You are assuming that if you do something that says you'll fail 85% of the time, that 15% of the time you'll succeed. That's not the way a random number generator actually works.. Lets say you flip a coin 100 times. according to the "rules" of percentage and chance, half of those flips should come up tails. But the fact is that NONE of the have to come up tails. You could flip it 100 times and there is a probability of getting 100 heads. There's a 50% chance each flip of it coming up one or the other, just like there's a chance of you failing each time you try. Some people's luck just blows.

I say leave the jail times alone, and go work on your IQ and hacking skill a little

I like this Idea, making the jail times shorter is a good idea, but maybe making the easy ones have a short time in jail while orsm computer has a 2hr one or something

1. Not what this topic is about.

2. theres a 7.88860905 × 10^(-31) probability of getting all heads. Effectively, its not going to happen. over 99% of them will probably end up between 40 and 60 heads. now, if you flipped a coin 100 times, and repeated it over 10 times, and every time you got under 40 heads, i would say that there was probably something wrong with the coin. Because it's simply not supposed to do that. Over time, you should converge on the real percentage, even if it is "random."

You're STILL pissing and moaning about this? Jesus christ man, just shut the **** up already.

He was actually just commenting that the other post was off topic, rather than moaning out of place.

I semi agree with this. No one stays in jail for that long, and if they do I feel they should win a medal :P 'Times left to rot' should be a stat below the busted stats in the user page XD

Actually, I see it as on topic. Your complaint about the jail times probably wouldn't be made if you didn't fail so often. I was merely reminding you that you're not just dealing with percentages, you're dealing with a machine generated percentage. That's what your complaint is, really. It's not that you have to sit in jail for X amount of time, because no one really ever sits in jail for their whole sentence. You want the times lowered because, that way when you fail, you have less time to sit there.

What you're asking is for them to reduce the penalty without any real good reason why. Unless your intention is to make the game even easier to advance. Is that the idea? Make it an easy game, without ever having to fail? Like baseball with no score, everyone's a winner.

The jail times are fine. Fail less and they won't be an issue, I'm sure.

If you want jail times to be shorter, we'll have to get rid of the bribe/bust system to compensate.

And Arya just won't like that.

Toast there is no real reason to be a smart arse about it

I would disagree with this thread however, you need to feel some sort of punishment for being caught, otherwise people would just do White House with low %'s as u would not be in jail for long.

Besides when was the last time you stayed in jail for the entire sentence?

Fuzzy, as a point! If sentences were only 15 for the white house, everyone would be hacking it with no real penalty. He also has a decent point about staying in jail the entire sentence, which is rare.

I personally think that doing my 600 kills atm (when all else is under 25 days old) is slightly more important..

Hell, i'd rather the sentences go UP, but make the bribe or but ratio easier/cheaper. (people might use the bribe then)

by no real penalty, you mean nothing besides the 3000+ energy you would have to spend every night to get 5 hacks in on the white house? And if you aren't going to stay in the whole time, whats the point of having a stupidly long sentence? I'd say that most busts occur within 5 minutes of being jailed., so instead of making someone wait 40 minutes, which is annoying, why not 10/5?

i agree with the second part. I'm pretty sure the busting success rate is 66%, and I think it should be upped to 75%. (you succeed in 3/4 of busts, rather than 2/3) And all bribe attempts should be 10k, so they will definitely be used

Jail time is a good time to be in Chat and meet loads of great people & mark.

Time are just fine !

I do hate it when you get busted on someone hacking Lynn, and you get twice their time.. but hell, it's the fun part of busting people ...
